Description:
Under the supervision of the Lead Pastor, the Student Ministries Director will lead our student ministry (grades 6-12) and assist our Christian Education Director (Children’s ministry) to reach and disciple students and families to maturity in Christ. He will also work alongside the Lead Pastor and elders to shepherd and care for Southview GBC based on needs and giftedness.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direction and oversight to the student ministry of Southview GBC
- Implement a discipleship plan that helps students understand the Bible and how to live out their faith in our current culture
- Recruit and lead a team of volunteers for the student ministry
- Regularly organize and implement special events for the students
- Work with the Lead Pastor and CE Director to connect students to the overall life and mission of Southview GBC
- As schedule allows, support students by attending their extracurricular activities (sports games, concerts, plays, etc.)
- Seek ways to build relationships with local schools and/or community organizations in order to reach students and families
- Work with the CE Director to support parents by developing healthy relationships, clear communication, and training opportunities for them
- Assist the CE Director in planning our annual Vacation Bible School
- Assist the Lead Pastor in various pastoral responsibilities based on needs and giftedness (examples: preaching, visitation, funerals, etc.)
- Be an active participant in weekly staff meetings
- Complete monthly ministry reports and meet monthly with the Lead Pastor
Qualifications:
- Genuine and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
- Character that reflects the qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7
- Commitment to the local church
- Desire to help students grow in their faith
- Ability to faithfully and applicably teach the Scriptures
- Ability to lead a team of volunteers
- Ability to relate well with others across generations
- Agree with Southview GBC’s statement of faith
- Prior experience working with students in a local church
- Willing to pursue ordination in the Charis Fellowship
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferred)
