Milestones
Three individuals will join the faculty of Grace College, Winona Lake, Ind., this fall. Dr. Jared Burkholder is assistant professor of history. He comes to Grace from Augustana College in South Dakota and is a graduate of Columbia International University (B.A.), Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.A.), and the University of Iowa (Ph.D.). Dr. Jeffrey Peck returns to the Grace campus associate professor in the teacher education department. A Grace grad (B.S. 78, Elementary Education; M.A. 84, Christian School Administration) he holds a PhD in Education from The Ohio State University Dr. Peck comes to Grace from Bethel College, where he has taught since 1998. Cheryl Bremer is half-time assistant professor in the teacher education department. Bremer also is a graduate of Grace College (B.S. 92, Music Education and Music Performance) and Indiana University (Master’s in Special Education).
Dr. John E. Foreman has been named superintendent of Worthington Christian Schools, a ministry of the Grace Brethren Church of Columbus, Ohio. He previously was the assistant superintendent of Dayton Christian Schools
Dan Gregory has been named to the pastoral staff of Grace Church of Norton, Ohio. Previously, he led the Community of Hope Grace Brethren Church in Columbia City, Ind. for 14 years.
Dr. Christy Morr and Jim Hill were married July 13 at Community Grace Brethren Church in Warsaw, Ind. She is a professor at Grace College and Theological Seminary. He is a Grace seminary graduate and teaches in the college’s prison extension program.
Howard Immel has concluded his ministry at the Carlton Grace Brethren Church in Garwin, Iowa. He and his wife June are retiring to the Warsaw/Winona Lake, Ind., area.
Chaplain (First Lieutenant) Jeff Mason, a member of the Grace Brethren Church of Columbus, Ohio and a recent graduate of Grace Theological Seminary, has received a commission in the U.S. Army Reserves and has been deployed with the 157th Combat Service and Support Brigade (based in Willow Grove, Pa.).
Matt McCoy is pastor at the Summit Mills Grace Brethren Church in Meyersdale, Pa. He was previously associate pastor at the Grace Brethren Church (Greg Howell, pastor) in Goldendale, Wash.
Donald Ogden, longtime chair of the music department of Grace College, Winona Lake, Ind., and minister of music at the Winona Lake Grace Brethren church, was married July 26 to a longtime friend, Ethelee Jones, in the Fireside Room of the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. Both were previously widowed. The ceremony was performed by his brother, Dr. Russ Ogden, a retired Grace Brethren pastor.
The elders of Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren church in Mississauga, Ontario (Bartley Sawatsky, pastor) have commissioned Armando Padovan as pastor of Brazilian ministries. Padovan, a native of Brazil, has been working since early 2008 with pastors Nathan Bryant and Bartley Sawatsky to formulate a plan for the launch of the church’s newest international ministry: VIVA BRASIL.

Dr. Rik Lovelady, professor emeritus at Grace College, Winona Lake, Ind., was honored with the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award by Tyndale University College, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Lovelady, a 1958 graduate of the college, was given the award at Tyndale’s 2008 graduation ceremony on May 10.
Recognized by the Association of Grace Brethren Ministers during their meetings in Tampa, Fla. were: Richard Todd, senior pastor of the Community Grace Brethren Church of Whittier, Calif., as Pastor of the Year; Ed Jackson, Worthington, Ohio, the Lifetime Achievement Award; and Tom Avey, coordinator for the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches, the Excellence in Ministry Award.
