Today, the brunt of Momentum 2016- 2,050 junior high and high school students!- branched out in the collective On Mission. The extensive week for God showed in the worn out faces of students and leaders alike, after a hard day of being On Mission. However, with their weariness, there were also smiles. There were the testimonies of students who visited hospitals, painted private homes, and performed maintenance for various churches.
“We’re called to pour out on people because Christ did that for us.” McKenzie of York Grace Brethren summed up the efforts of everyone in her youth group, as they helped out at a church building in Marysville. All the students agreed that they felt God move. This continuous movement was celebrated in the final crazy worship, everybody jumping for Jesus, bursting their lungs in praise.
Jeff Bogue received an equally crazy welcome onto the stage for Momentum 2016’s closing session. He expressed joy in the deep, deep ways in which God has been working this week, where over 200 students have accepted Christ and others have recommitted their lives.
But for what? In their homes, on the team and in the classroom, our presence in those places is to be a
catalyst for God. That is what He calls us to do. Bogue highlighted in 1 Peter 2:9 ‘a royal priesthood’. The Old Testament priests were the ‘keepers of truth’, the people that you went with all the questions about God. Every aspect of their life was different because they were illustrating what following God looked like.
“This is how you connect with Him.” Bogue stressed. “We are Christ-comissioned priests. We pastor and paint the picture of God.”
Many at Momentum are committing to this priesthood for the first time, while others recommit. So they can answer the question… why do you go to math class? Because there are souls there that God has entrusted to you in that math class, on that soccer team, working at that part-time job. Our lives will make sense when we see it correctly; through God. After Momentum 2016, the decisions of this life are the students’, the leaders’. Many have run into the love and glory of God. Now it’s up to them to run with it the rest of their days!
