La Verne Historical Society to host historical homes tour

The La Verne Historical Society will host an historical homes tour on Saturday, April 22. The home will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Saturday, April 22, 2017, the La Verne Historical is sponsoring a home tour entitled the “Third Street Beauty Pageant.” Three beautiful homes will be available to tour, all located within a block of each other on one of the prettiest streets in La Verne. …
In 1928, Frank and Elizabeth Detter commissioned William Moomaw to build them a house just down the street from the Brandt House, but in an entirely different style. Described as a “Kansas Cottage House”, this brick Tudor-style house features a steep pitched roof, front-facing gables, arched doorway entrance, and half-timbering on the upper story. From 1956 through 1968 this house served as the parsonage of the Grace Brethren Church. In 1972 the upstairs was enlarged to create a master bedroom and bath.
These “Third Street Beauty Pageant” homes are available to visit from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tour costs $15 and is free to current La Verne Historical Society members. Tickets can be obtained and tours will start at 2350 Third St. Questions can be directed to the La Verne Historical Society at 909-596-4679.
