May to Join Lady Lancers as Assistant Softball Coach

Aug 29, 2017

One of the best players in Grace College’s softball history is joining the Lady Lancers’ coaching staff next year.

Clarissa May (Knight) graduated last year as a decorated All-American infielder. She finished her stellar four-year career as the program’s all-time hits leader, racking up 275 hits from 2014-17.

“This opportunity is a dream come true for me,” May said. “The first time I helped run a softball camp, I knew the Lord had placed a special calling in my heart to coach. And now I get to be a part of a coaching staff that has shaped and molded me throughout my career. I am honored to have the chance to give back to a program and school that has given me so much. Once a Lady Lancer, always a Lady Lancer.”

May wrapped up her career No. 1 in doubles (39), No. 2 in triples (16), No. 3 in home runs (8) and No. 4 in stolen bases (53).

She helped Grace to two trips to the NCCAA National Championships, including a fourth-place showing in 2014. Overall, Grace won 115 games over her four years, averaging 28 victories per season.

“Clarissa brings a multitude of wonderful qualities to the Lancer Softball coaching staff. Her heart for the Lord, work ethic, selflessness, determination and willingness to learn will allow her to be a successful coach,” said Grace head coach Nora Reece. “I am blessed to be able to mentor Clarissa in her transition from player to coach.” — from gclancers.com
