Goshen native named Applied Learning Student of the Year

Goshen native Emily Stichter was named the Grace College Applied Learning Student of the Year at the Influence Awards Luncheon April 10.

According to Grace College officials, Stichter, a visual communication design major, was selected because of her tireless work ethic and attention to detail while working at RedBird Studio.

“I learned firsthand about the publishing process as people came alongside me to help create an illustrated children’s book featuring the artwork of one of RedBird’s artists, Julie,” Stichter said.

RedBird’s artists are all clients of Cardinal Services, a Warsaw organization that assists and advocates for people with disabilities. RedBird provides artists both a chance for independent income and a forum for artistic expression. The studio sells the artists’ creations, and 60 percent of the income goes to the artist.

Stichter said her applied learning experience at RedBird was deeply impacting and rewarding.

“A couple of my many takeaways were realizing the importance of being present in the moment and recognizing the power art has to connect us with others,” Stichter said.
