The congregation of the Grace Brethren Church of Uniontown, Pa. (Roland Maust, pastor), received a practical lesson in generosity and thankfulness on Sunday morning, November 20, when they discovered a gigantic wicker cornucopia brimming with fruits, nuts and vegetables sitting on the table in front of the pulpit.
“I was as surprised as anyone,” said Pastor Roland Maust. “At first, I thought it was just appetizing-looking plastic, but as I walked up the aisle, I could see heads of cauliflower and lettuce wrapped in plastic, and a bunch of very real asparagus. There were even hard-boiled eggs scattered throughout the basket.”
A member of the congregation, who chose to remain anonymous, wanted to minister to the church family by supplying this bounty of food. At the end of the service, everyone was encouraged come up and fill one of the plastic shopping bags provided with the delicious produce.
“This was a real blessing for the older members of our congregation, many of whom are on fixed incomes,” said Pastor Maust. “With Thanksgiving just a few days away, this provided even more for which to be grateful for this year.”
