General George Patton is quoted as saying, “If you tell people where to go, but not how to get there, you’ll be amazed at the results.”
I wonder what he meant. Did he mean that without specific directions, they’d probably get lost? Or did he mean that we would be surprised at their ingenuity in finding their way to the desired destination?
Most men, they say, do not like to ask for directions; and today, with the ever-popular GPS navigation device, one hardly has to ask for directions anymore. Many folks really want to have very clear directions so they can reach their destination quickly and without traveling some circuitous route.
When it comes to finding our way to heaven, we’d better be very sure that we have the right directions. Many men and women are trusting in their own intuition or feelings, thinking they know enough or are trying hard enough that they’ll surely reach heaven when they die. But that’s not what the Bible teaches. There is but one way. It’s the way of faith–faith in the grace of God who provided Jesus as the way through His death and resurrection to pay the penalty for sin against God.
Are you following the right direction? Have you trusted in Him? Pray a simple prayer, confessing your sin, and acknowledging Jesus as your Savior. Then find a Bible-teaching church to help you grow in your faith. For help, call 574-268-1122 or write to fgbcworld@bmhbooks.com.
