Bill Harris remembered as servant leader at celebration

Billy M. Harris was a Marine, owner of a car dealership and member of the Ohio General Assembly.

But even more than the honors and titles he earned during three distinct careers, Harris was known for his faith in God as a servant leader.

That was the message his friends, family and pastor emphasized Saturday morning during a celebration of life service for Harris at Grace Brethren Church of Ashland. Harris died early Monday at age 83.

“A soldier has fallen,” Grace Brethren Pastor Dan Allen said after the service opened with the playing of the “Marines’ Hymn” on bagpipes. “A respected voice in the community is silent. A public servant will represent us no longer. A friend can be no longer support us. A father and papa is missing.

″… Bill was exposed to a number of leadership models during his life but Jesus Christ was the example he followed as a servant leader.”
