Ashland Southview Wifflefest 08 Underway

Wifflefest, a huge community outreach tournament which the Ashland, Ohio, Southview Grace Brethren Church conducts each year, is currently underway.

Wifflefest IX is underway, with the high school and adult tournaments completed in the first two days of the event.

In the championship game of Friday’s 34-team adult tournament, the Batman team of Mike Barr, Chris Clever, Daniel Smoker and Eryn Lynch defeated the Disciples of Destruction, consisting of Ross Ashley, Ben Wagner, Bryan Henson, Ryan Smith and Scott Highman, by a 7-4 count.

In the title game of Thursday’s 22-team high school tournament, Sky is the Limit — Daniel Rowsey, Blake Delaney, Anthony Deppen, Logan Adams and Grant Fairhurst — defeated Plain White T-shirts — Court Gerwig, Derek Palicy, Tim Daniels, Adam Walker and Ethan Forbes, 5-1.

Today will see both the elementary and middle school tournaments begin at 9 a.m., and the family tournament will be Sunday at 1 p.m.

Also Sunday, former Ohio State defensive lineman Joel Penton will speak during worship service at Southview Grace Brethren Church at 10 a.m.

July 13 at 9 a.m., former Ohio State basketball player and Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry Lucas will be the church’s special speaker.
