Men’s college basketball: Grace starts well, goes cold
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Grace College’s men’s basketball team went stone cold in the second half, hitting only eight of 35 shots (23 percent), and fell to top seed William Penn, 79-58, on Monday in the semifinals of the NAIA Division II National Tournament.
The Lancers held several leads during the first half and had its largest margin at 31-21. But the top seeded Statesmen surged and the teams entered halftime tied at 36.
Grace (24-10) kept it close early in the third quarter, trailing just, 54-51, with about nine minutes remaining.
That’s when the Lancers’ opponents from Iowa took things to another level, going on a 25-7 run to close the game.
William Penn (34-1) will face Indiana Wesleyan in Tuesday night’s title game.
