CENTER FOR LAKES & STREAMS CONTINUES SAMPLING

The Center for Lakes & Streams continues to collect samples from local Kosciusko County streams through the winter months. In fact, the center has added new sites throughout the Warsaw area as part of involvement in the Clean Waters Partnership, an initiative including representatives from the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District, The Watershed Foundation, Zimmer-Biomet, and Center, Chapman, Pike and Winona lakes associations.

Despite temperatures and wind chills below zero degrees Fahrenheit, the center’s research assistants have traveled to local streams around Winona Lake, Lake Wawasee, and Lake Tippecanoe. Lake Tippecanoe sites were added in partnership with Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners. Collecting samples, even when local lakes and streams are not being utilized for recreational purposes, is crucial to understanding seasonal changes the lakes undergo as well as the impacts of human activity during the summer months.
