Doy Sneckenberger Honored for Helping Operation Barnabas

Aug 1, 2014

From CE National…

Each year, Operation Barnabas leaders and staff select an individual, group, or church to receive an award named in honor of Roger Ward (Grace Brethren Church, Norwalk, Calif.).

While the students on OB are being trained in what it means to be “a son or daughter of encouragement,” there are people who far out serve the teams with their kindness and generosity. Back in the summer of 1979, Roger Ward showed himself to be one of those kinds of people. He gave his own personal vehicle, supplied fuel for the vehicle, and was continually helping the team that year. After his home-going due to an accident at his business, CE National named this service award after Roger in honor of a life devoted to serving others more than self.

CE National is pleased to announce the 2014 Roger Ward Memorial Award goes to Doy Sneckenberger from Hagerstown, Md. Doy owns Clean and Bright Laundry and for years has truly demonstrated a spirit of encouragement by generously offering Operation Barnabas teams the free use of his Laundromat as well as providing a meal. This year, the NorthEast OB team was treated to a much needed laundry stop, free lunch at Pizza Hut, and even a love gift to help with bus fuel!

When notified of his award, Doy shared the following encouraging story: “In the week after your visit, two of the customers who were there at the same time came up to me and said great things about the OB team members. One lady said she just left her home and a bad relationship. She went on to say this was her first time back at a laundry. She was in tears as she told me of the encouragement the OB youth were to her and that she had an opportunity to pray with them. You never know where God will use an OB team member. You may have been there that day just to meet and pray with her. She said to tell you all ‘Thank You!’ when I contacted OB again.”

Doy is a member of Maranatha Brethren Church (Dan Thornton, pastor).
