Erin Bakker Released from Hospital

Mar 10, 2015

Praise the Lord! Erin Bakker was released from the hospital on Monday! Here are a few updates from the Facebook page of the Grace Brethren Church of Simi Valley, Calif. Continue to pray for Erin, her husband, Jordan, and their family.

Erin made lots of improvement today and was released from the hospital to go home tonight!! She has no restrictions and is only regulated by what she feels up to doing! Every single person, therapist and doctor has expressed disbelief, amazement and gratitude at her recovery – our God has been greatly on display!!

Thanks for all your prayers and we’ll continue to monitor and assist the Bakker’s as needed. Currently we have way more than enough help but we’ll let you know if more needs arise!

March 8

Just a quick Erin update!

They are moving Erin out of the ICU this evening with a likelihood of going home tomorrow. Erin has regained most of her feeling in her right hand/leg and has been able to get up and walk the halls!! The hospital staff continues to be surprised by how quickly she has recovered and how much she has progressed. Jordan says “She is looking and acting like her old self and besides being tired is in great spirits.”

Jordan’s parents arrived this afternoon to help take care of the girls and Erin’s mom is planning on coming out on Thursday. We have arranged meals for this coming week and will address other needs as they come up. One day/week at a time.

They believe they have identified the cause of the stroke. They’ve found that Erin has a very small hole in her heart that has probably been there her whole life. This hole allowed a small clot in her heart to pass through the wall of her heart and continue on to her brain, causing the stroke. [Apparently it is normal to have small clots in our bloodstream that typically pass through our heart to our lungs where they are broken up and taken care of over time.]

Praise the Lord for the diagnoses and that nothing else came up as a problem on all the tests/scans!

Please continue to pray for the process of getting the hole in her heart closed up. It’s small enough that if she was older they would simply leave her on blood thinners and monitor, but because she’s so young, they’d like to close it up. Pray for a smooth approval/referral process and all the logistics that go into that process. It could take a few weeks for everything to get sorted out and scheduled.

It’s been a privilege to watch Jordan rest in the goodness and sovereignty of God. That was true not just today when things are going well, but was true on Friday night as well, when things didn’t look good at all, and he wasn’t sure what would happen.

All praise and glory to our great and gracious God!!
