Local Bible teacher has visited the Holy Land almost 30 times

WOOSTER — A Smithville couple’s trip to the Holy Land was “amazing … to actually stand at Jericho, to actually stand in Jerusalem, to actually walk where Jesus walked and where Paul walked,” said Carl Rehm.
Rehm’s and his wife, Alice’s, tour guide in 2017 was the Rev. Bob Fetterhoff, whose enthusiasm for the Holy Land has not dimmed over a span of 25 years of visiting it and serving as a guide.
A Bible teacher from Wooster Grace Church, Fetterhoff will lead his 27th and 28th trips in the fall, beginning Oct. 29, and in the spring, beginning March 15. Despite his familiarity with them, the sites of Biblical events continue to move him.
From the first time he visited the Holy Land in 1994 with his friend, the Rev. Jim Custer, as a tour guide, it changed his life, he said, and “absolutely changed my perspective in reading the Bible.”
“You’ll never read it the same way,” Fetterhoff promised. “You’ll never be able to read Scripture without thinking of the places (you’ve seen).”
“It makes opening up the Bible now so exciting,” echoed Carl Rehm, to recognize when reading it, “I’ve been there. I know what that looks like. I can see that place.”
The impact of his own visit “interested (him) in helping others have the same experience,” Fetterhoff said.
