EASTER EGG HUNT: Grace Community Church hosts thousands for annual event

GOSHEN —Thousands of adults and children descended upon the wind-blown lawn of Grace Community Church Sunday for an annual Easter egg hunt. The Goshen church hosts one of the largest egg hunts in the county, with 35,000 eggs stuffed with candy by its congregation, according to organizers.

Ted Rondeau, executive administrator for outreach and missions for the church, said the empty eggs were placed out about two or three weeks ago on a Sunday and returned by their church members filled with candy.

The hunt, which has been going on for more than 10 years, seems to get bigger every year, Rondeau said, and the church members enjoy hosting community members who may not even attend their usual Sunday services.

“We’re honored to be a part of the community here and this is one of the ways that we like to give back to the community and say thank you for supporting us,” he said between directing some of the 75 volunteers and giving instructions to the large crowd for entering the bicycle raffles.

Rondeau said the congregation of the church not only fills the eggs, but signs up to buy one of the more than 20 bicycles, tricycles or wagons that are raffled off as well.

The church bought 8,000 tickets to hand out to families to enter for the bikes.
