A Grace Brethren congregation in Battambang, Cambodia, and a ministry with ties to the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches is mentioned in the June 2017 issue of Christianity Today. The article reports on the open window for the gospel in Cambodia.
Photos of the Grace Brethren church in Battambang are included and Pastor Lim Phanny is quoted. He who was among those who helped begin the Grace Brethren movement in Cambodia 25 years ago. Today, in addition to pastoring the church, he leads 20 cell groups throughout the region, is director of the Battambang Christian Association, operates an orphanage, and teaches at the Battambang Bible College, according to Jill and Kevin Kane, who serve in Battambang.
Jay Bell, former staff member with Encompass World Partners (Grace Brethren International Missions), helped establish Grace Brethren ministries in Cambodia. He recalled first visiting Cambodia in the early 1990s and realizing there were only approximately 100 Christians in the country. “Today there are more Christians in Grace Brethren churches there than there were in the country [when we began],” he recalled. He said that when he read the Christianity Today article, “I read Lim Phanny’s name and was flooded with thanksgiving.”
Ou Savorn, a former Cru leader who now serves with the orphan-care program, Asia’s Hope, also is quoted in the article. Asia’s Hope is a cooperating ministry in the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches.
