It’s become a tradition for the Grace Brethren High football team. Each senior class leaves the program in a better place.

“Every group that comes through adds another brick to the wall, and it’s higher than the one before,” said Grace Brethren head coach Josh Henderson. “We didn’t reach all our goals this year. We didn’t win CIF. We didn’t win state. But there’s no doubt we’re at a different level that what we were when our seniors came in as freshmen.

“Where they’ve been able to take us is really incredible. It hasn’t just been about talent either. The leadership they’ve shown has made all the difference in taking us to new heights.”

Grace Brethren’s sterling run includes five championship game appearances in the past six seasons and consecutive CIF-SS championships in Division 8 in 2017 and Division 4 a year ago.

On Friday night, the Lancers were denied a third straight Southern Section crown.
