Agribusiness Major, Kendall Lovejoy, Receives the American FFA Degree
One of our own, Kendall Lovejoy, a second-year Agribusiness major, received the “American FFA Degree” through Future Farmers of America. This is the gold standard for FFA–less than one percent of all student members receive this honor.
Now, we know that for many of you, this farmer jargon doesn’t mean much. Let us break it down for you:
The American FFA Degree is the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization. It’s kind of like a boy scout earning his Eagle Scout Merit. This degree proves Kendall’s dedication to his chapter and state FFA association, as well as his effort toward his supervised agricultural hands-on experience, his outstanding leadership abilities, and his community involvement.
“I was in the FFA all throughout high school,” said Lovejoy, “I was elected to one term as Chapter Reporter and then two consecutive terms as Chapter President. During my time in the FFA, I raised market hogs, soybeans, and I worked on a hog and grain farm all throughout high school.”
In order to qualify for the degree, Kendall had to meet the following requirements:
-Earn $10,000
-Invest $7,500 into projects.
-Maintain academics
-Complete at least 50 community service hours.
