Soto’s spirituality extends to his role as a pastor of three churches, including McAllen Grace Brethren Church, The Native American New Life Center and Chief of Chiefs Christian Church.
A group gathers once per week for three weeks in McAllen, once per month in Browns- ville and once per month in San Antonio.
The tribe welcomes anyone to attend services, though their churches aren’t temples, really.
“There’s a taboo in a lot of native people against a church, a building,” Soto said. “Most native people feel more comfortable in a home environment.”
