GOP mayoral hopefuls brave long odds in start of campaign to defeat de Blasio

Republican candidates kicked off their primary campaign with 2017’s first mayoral forum Wednesday night, taking aim at Mayor de Blasio as they pitched themselves to voters.
Former New York Jet and minister Michel Faulkner told the crowd at the event hosted by the Brooklyn GOP in Dyker Heights that despite long odds in an overwhelmingly Democratic city, he thinks Republicans have a shot this year.
“This time we’ve got a real opportunity because our current mayor is so bad,” he said.
Faulkner and businessman Paul Massey hit de Blasio on everything from his managerial skills and the corruption probes into his administration to the hours he keeps at work.
