Margaret (Peg) Carey, a member of the Ellet Grace Brethren Church, Akron, Ohio (Jonathan Carey, pastor), was recently honored with the “Silver Acorn Award” at Ritzman CLC, the public elementary school next door to the church.

She has taught an after school Good News Club at Ritzman for more than 30 years.

Her son, Pastor Jonathan Carey, said that she starting holding the club at the encouragement of Dorotha Wiley, when her husband, Ralph Wiley, was an interim pastor there. “Part of our great relationship with Ritzman CLC (Community Learning Center of Akron Public Schools) is due to her ministry with the kids there. We’ve had teachers recommend to parents that their child should attend because they had seen such a big difference in the kids who were attending.”

Jonathan says that she has faithfully served in this ministry while battling various physical ailments such as Lupus. “In fact, some current health problems will force her to finally stop teaching after this school year.”
