Vince Allegra finally got the Gatorade bath he had been waiting for since 2006.

The head coach of the Grace Brethren High girls’ soccer team directed the Lancers to a 6-0 win against St. Anthony for the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 championship on March 7 at Warren High in Downey.

Grace Brethren won the first CIF title in program history.

Allegra watched Grace Brethren lose a 3-1 playoff play-in game to Carpinteria in 2006, his first season as an assistant coach. The team made second-round postseason appearances in 2008 and 2011.

The Lancers have traveled a long way to the top.

Sammi Fisher buried a 20-yard free kick from the left wing in the upper right corner of the net in

the 66th minute to lead Grace Brethren (25-3-2) to a come-from-behind victory in the CIF Southern California Division V regional semifinals.

“From that angle, with the wind and where the ball was, I wanted to aim toward the far post and let the wind take it,” Fisher said.

“Everything was good. It hit just the right spot.”

Joana Schimmel tied the score in the 37th minute for Grace Brethren, which advanced to the first regional final in school history.
