Kaitlyn Halstead limped from the field, kinesiology tape covering her legs and emotion swelling in her eyes.

The senior defender had helped the Grace Brethren High girls soccer team reach historical heights the last two seasons, only to be stung by defeat in the final game each time.

Goalkeeper Jordan Wells made a diving save and then converted the game-winning shot as second-seeded Grand Terrace defeated top-seeded Grace Brethren 5-4 in penalty kicks in the CIF Division V SoCal Regional championship Saturday afternoon at Cal Lutheran University.

After the teams tied 1-1 through regulation and overtime, Grace Brethren (24-5) had its 21-game winning streak end by the slimmest of margins.
