On Sunday afternoon, July 29, the Sunnyside, Wash., Grace Brethren Church (Nathan Zakahi, pastor) held a special Honor Service for Yakima County, Wash., Sheriff Brian Winter. The service was planned and presided over by Adam Ruppert, pastoral intern. Following the presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation and flag flown over the Sheriff’s Office, Pastor Zakahi led those assembled in prayer for Sheriff Winter who is battling ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The afternoon activities were capped off with a delicious bar-b-que meal served in the Fellowship Hall.
On the 29th, Sheriff Winter completed 30 years of law enforcement service. He is decorated USMC veteran and member of Memorial Bible Church in Gleed, Wash. He is the son of Chuck and the late Marilyn Winter. Chuck was the longtime pastor of the Grace Brethren Church, Harrah, Wash. and now attends the Sunnyside church.
