Sherie Howell, wife to Stephen, died on October 25, 2021. Stephen is a former Charis pastor and currently serves as the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships with ZimZam Global. Sherie’s obituary appears below.
Sherie Dianne Howell
June 17, 1959 – October 25, 2021
Sherie Dianne Howell was born June 17, 1959 to Melvin and Patricia Waters. She was the 2nd of three children, having an older brother Bob and younger sister Tina. As a teenager attending Hagerstown Bible she was born again, and her faith in Jesus became the foundation and center of her life.
Sherie graduated from Heritage Academy High School in Hagerstown in 1977. During her senior year of high school she met the love of her life, Stephen Howell. She fell for him as she heard him preach, and he for her as he heard her sing. Sherie prayed that she would marry a preacher, and her prayers were answered when they married that same year on September 6th in Forestville, Maryland.
The fruit of their union is five children Christina Sherie (’79), Janell Joy (’81), Marc Stephen (’83), Phillip Michael (’85), and Sandy Dianne (’87). Sherie loved being a mother as it was the realization of one of her life’s greatest aspirations. In addition to her work as a mother and homemaker, where she kept a beautiful home, Sherie held positions as a bank teller, receptionist, and courtroom clerk for Prince George’s County Circuit Court.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and crafting; activities which centered on making the spaces and gatherings of which she was a part more beautiful and welcoming. Most notable were the elaborate graduation parties and weddings where she ensured every detail was attended to.
Her heart was to serve others and to show love to all those God brought into her life. As she dealt with great physical pain and emotional suffering, it was His love that sustained and shone through her.
Even in her last months as she battled cancer, she spoke often of the opportunities this gave her to love those around her, and point them to her Savior. In her final hours she expressed excitement that she would soon be meeting Jesus face-to-face, and said she would await the time when we all can celebrate with Him together.
Sherie is preceded in death by her father, mother and her sister. She is survived by her brother Robert Waters, her husband Stephen, and her five children: Christi Felabom (Ryan), Janell Wagner (Joel), Marc Howell (Sarah), Phillip Howell (Christine), Sandy Furtado (Kyle), and her twenty-one grandchildren: Gideon, Andrew, Dominic and Hannah; Benjamin, Alaina, Stephen and William; Annika, Cora, Eden, Sanjana and Bruce Arjunan; Ellyana, Grace, Evangeline, John and Luciana; Josalynn, Janell and Joel.
