Faith powers teens on cross-country trek
Operation Barnabas visits Marion with mission

MARION — Speckled with white paint, adorned with a T-shirt that read “Jesus Never Changes,” Dominique Perry continued to sing the praise of encouragement as she painted the Marion Salvation Army’s gym.

She also talked about faith, the kind of faith one must have when things seem hopeless.

Such is the life aboard the Operation Barnabas bus as it travels across the country.

Perry, a teenager from District Heights, Md., joins 29 other teens on a mission trip meant to spread encouragement and belief in Christ. Their trip is inspired by Barnabas, a prophet in the early Christian church whose nickname “Barnabas” means “Son of Encouragement.”

Their journey brought them to Marion on Monday and Tuesday as they completed local service projects in the community and ministered to young people at McKinley Park and the Salvation Army worship center.
