Jack Brown, executive director of Grow New England, the Charis Fellowship church planting ministry in the northeast United States, has sent his June prayer letter. A portion of it is included below.
“Seeing the people, He (Jesus) felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:36-38)
Like you, I receive newsletters from various missionaries and ministries from around the world. The needs are great! There are victims of earthquakes, there are people ravaged by the effects of war, many are living in poverty without any food or medical care, many of our cities here in the United States are in desperation. There are so many physical and spiritual needs around the world, and one of the places in spiritual desperation is right here in the northeastern United States.
The evangelical population in New England is less than 4%. One out of six residents in the state of Massachusetts considers themselves to be agnostic or atheist. This adds up to a region in the United States where over 96% of the population will spend eternity separated from God.
It is exciting to be a part of what God is doing in this region. I want to thank you for your partnership. I also want to ask you to prayerfully consider how you can be involved in the ministry of church planting in New England.

Upcoming Events and Prayer Needs:
- Church Softball Team: We have several unsaved people playing for the team this year. Pray for their salvation.
- Endicott Park Day: We will have a tent at this event. Pray for good contacts to be made in that community.
- Soccer Clinic: We will be hosting a two-day soccer clinic. We are very blessed to have the men’s soccer coach from Gordon College, Matt Horth, heading up this clinic. Pray that some young people and their families might come to know Christ.
- Gloucester Sidewalk Bazaar: This is an annual event held the first weekend in August. We are very excited to participate in this event each year.
- We are also looking forward to a ministry team from Ashland Ohio joining us in the early part of August. We are so grateful for the encouragement and assistance this team brings each year.
- Also, we ask that you continue to pray for a young man to lead our Danvers church. A pastor who has a heart for church planting and is gifted to pastor a small church as it looks to impact its’ community.
