kent-bookDr. Homer A. Kent, Jr. (left), former president and professor of Greek and New Testament at Grace College and Seminary in Winona Lake, IN, recently presented a copy of his latest book to Bill Darr (right), head of library services for Grace College and Seminary. The commentary, entitled Studies in Mark, is newly-rewritten and expanded and is the first of a series called the “Kent Collection” being published by BMH Books. Copies, at $14.99, are available at www.bmhbooks.com or by calling 1-800-348-2756. Dr. Homer A. Kent, Jr., former president and professor emeritus of New Testament and Greek at Grace Theological Seminary, has released his latest New Testament commentary, a brilliant and insightful 248-page exposition of the Gospel of Mark.

Titled Studies in Mark and subtitled “The Beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” which is how Mark referred to his own book, the quality paperback was released in late May, 2005, by BMH Books, Winona Lake, IN.

Based on an earlier, smaller work, the new commentary has been expanded and completely re-written by Kent. According to the author, the commentary “does not attempt to force Mark into an arbitrary order which ignores his own emphases.” The Greek text was always consulted, Dr. Kent says, but was not used in the commentary unless interpretation demanded it. Eighteen photographs by the author illustrate various chapters and Holy Land locations.

Studies in Mark is the first in a multi-volume series entitled “The Kent Collection” which is being re-released by BMH Books. Two more volumes in the matched set, on John and James, are expected to be available by this August, in time for Equip05. In all, Kent has written on 15 New Testament books.

Dr. Kent, 78, was dean of Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, IN, for 14 years and was president of Grace College and Seminary for ten years. He has guest-lectured throughout the U.S. as well as in France, Hungary, and the Central African Republic. He has traveled extensively in Israel and other Bible lands, often leading groups of students.

Dr. Kent is a graduate of Bob Jones University (B.A.) and Grace Theological Seminary (M.Div., Th.M. and Th.D.).

Studies in Mark is priced at $14.99 and is available online for credit card purchases at www.bmhbooks.com or by calling BMH Books division manager John Leonard at 1-800-348-2756. Large-quantity discounts are available for use as a text for Adult Bible Fellowships, Sunday School classes, or for lay Bible institute instruction.
